According to the police, after the death of a young woman on March 15, her relatives and members of the Jai Adivasi Yuva Sangathan laid siege to the Dongargaon police station under Badgonda police station overnight. During this, the crowd turned violent and a tribal youth was killed in police firing.

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Police has registered a case of attempted murder against a 22-year-old tribal youth who was killed in police firing during a protest against the death of a woman in Mhow tehsil of Indore district.
Notably, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had on Thursday (March 16) approved a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh to the family members of Bherulal Charel, who was killed in the firing that took place last Wednesday ( March 15).
According to a report published in NDTV, apart from Bherulal, the Badgonda police have also registered a case against a person named Pachilal. Protests and violence erupted outside the Dongargaon police station on Wednesday night over the death of Pachilal’s daughter Kavita (22).
Mhow Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Dilip Singh Chaudhary said a case has been registered against 12 named and 120 unknown persons under various sections, including rioting and attempt to murder, on Thursday night.
State Home Minister Narottam Mishra told the assembly on Thursday that the police had fired in self-defence.
Police said Kavita, a resident of Khargone, was studying in a college at Dhamnod in Dhar district. She allegedly had an affair with Yadunandan Patidar of Gawli Palasia village in Mhow tehsil.
He had been living in a Patidar’s house for six days. During this, he was allegedly electrocuted on Wednesday evening.
Following this, Patidar relatives and members of the Jai Adivasi Yuva Sangathan (JAYS) visited the Dongargaon police station under Bargonda police station overnight, demanding registration of a kidnapping case against the Patidar and their relatives
According to the police, the crowd turned violent and pelted stones, prompting the police to first lob tear gas shells and then open fire.
Meanwhile, state Congress chief Kamal Nath arrived in Mhow on Saturday to meet the man’s family.
On Friday, March 17, Kailash Vijayvargiya, general secretary of the ruling BJP, met Madan Charel, the father of the deceased Adivasi Bherulal, and assured that if any policeman was found guilty of killing his son, he would be punished.
Naib Tehsildar Shivshankar Jarolia said, “Section 144 (prohibition of gathering in groups) of the Code of Criminal Procedure is still in force in Badgonda, Mhow, Manpur, Kishanganj and Simrol police station areas.” After a thorough review of the situation, a decision will be made to cancel it.
Mhow SDOP Chowdhary said Badgonda police station in-charge Bharat Singh Thakur, who was injured in stone pelting on Wednesday night, is still in critical condition. He has been admitted to the ICU at a hospital in Indore.
He said the police have not yet arrested any accused in this case.
