Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday announced that the country’s low-income segment will get a subsidy of Rs 50 per liter as part of the oil relief package. News Aaj reported
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore.
Presiding over the meeting, the Prime Minister said that consumers using small vehicles such as motorcycles, rickshaws and 800 CC vehicles will be included in the fuel subsidy.
He directed all relevant authorities to finalize a scheme at the earliest for effective implementation of the grant.
He said that despite severe economic difficulties, the government is trying to help the poor in every possible way.
Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik briefed the meeting on the strategy to implement petroleum subsidy for low income earners.
Prime Minister Shehbaz believed that the oil subsidy will directly lead to the relief of the poor.
The government’s decision comes days after it again hiked petrol prices by Rs 5 per liter to Rs 272.00 per litre.
