PubPen, WebDesk: Three people, including a grassroots leader from Canning, were shot dead. In this incident, old enmity came to the fore. Baruipur Superintendent of Police said that an investigation has been started into the incident. However, the police have not revealed whether there is political involvement in this incident or not. The investigation started at the preliminary stage.

Police sources said that the Trinamool leader was shot dead by the assailants. The assailants shot two of his accomplices while fleeing. The incident took place around 8 am on Thursday near Pier Park in Canning, South 24 Parganas. According to local reports, Trinamool member Swapan Majhi of Gopalpur Gram Panchayat in Canning is on his way to attend a preparatory meeting on July 21. There are 2 other people with him. It is alleged that the assailants first shot and hacked a low-ranking leader. While fleeing, he also shot, cut and killed his companions and fled. Bombs and three bullet casings were seized from that area.
