Amsterdam Dam, Netherlands: Due to population growth and the lack of parking for cyclists in Dutch cities, the country’s largest bicycle parking is now being built in the largest city, which will actually be installed under the water
Based in Amsterdam, this car park will be the largest bike park in the country which could be an architectural wonder in itself. It will be built under the open refuge front, a tributary of the river IJ, while the second parking lot will also be built on the same river.
11,000 motorcycles can be stored here at a time. Construction began in 2019 and is nearing completion. The water was pumped by huge pumps to build it. The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of the Netherlands says that our country is small and it is important to use it wisely everywhere.
The bikes are placed on a conveyor belt that lowers them 30 feet to ground level, built by a company called ‘Work’, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology with side water tanks. Its interior design is similar to that of a sepia with natural stone and basalt used in its interior construction. Inside, the lighting is placed in a special way that makes it more beautiful.
It should be noted that the total number of bicycles in the city of Amsterdam is more than 9 lakh, and compared to 2021, there are more than 6 lakh bicycles on the street every day. This is why the parking problem has become a serious situation.
